Abstract

This work illustrates the results of research which dealt with the relationship between spare time and playing computer games among children of older primary school age. The results have shown that computer was the main spare time preoccupation of students. Among many of computer’s functions, the students organize their spare time by playing computer games. The results indicate that this choice depends on the students’ age and not on their gender. According to the answers of the interviewees, most parents approve of playing computer games in the spare time of their children. The largest number of the interviewees plays computer games up to two hours a day, which takes up a great deal of their spare time. As they play, they do not have the feeling of the extreme amount of time they expend, probably because they are having fun. The interviewed students most likely choose action games (which are on the top of the boy’s list), thinking games, adventure games (preferred by the girls) and simulation games. The given results give rise to some dilemmas and questions about their practical use, as well as some ideas for new researches.
