Abstract
The thermal values of the seawater, their distribution, oscillations, extremes ect.., belong to the scientific field that has due importance and permanent interest in physical oceanography. The importance of understanding of this parameter is great, because of the need to complete the information about the influence of temperature to other physical, chemical, biological and geological parameters and their interdependence. This paper analyses the thermal state of the area, especially important for the course of numerous processes in the Adriatic, and inderectly in the Mediterranean. It estimates the thermal characteristics of water masses, typical and untypical state, water dynamics, and the influence of climatic actors to the thermal structure of water column. The analysis resulted in important conclusions, one of which has to be carefully considered, because such occurrence has not been observed yet. It refers to logintudinal thermals waves, or certain barriers in the water column. The researched area is occasionally cut to six or fewer thermal channels. In case of loger duration, this phenomenon should cause certain effects to sea organisms, especially to plankton organisms.
