Hepatitis A, B and C in Primorsko-goranska County from 2001 to 2010

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze the epidemiological data on viral hepatitis A, B and C in the Primorsko-goranska County in the period from 2001 to 2010. Methods: Data for this paper were taken from the viral hepatitis A, B and C registry base on the communicable disease-death report cards taken by the Department of Epidemiology, Teaching Institute of Public Health of Primorsko-goranska County. Results and Discussion: A total of 594 persons infected with hepatitis A, B and C were reported. The majority of reported cases were infected with hepatitis C, a total of 302 (50,84 %) persons. In the second place were those infected with hepatitis B, a total of 236 (39,73 %), and in the third place were patients with hepatitis A – 56 (9,42 %). The highest number of acute hepatitis B cases was recorded in the 20 to 29 year age group – 21, and the highest number of patients with chronic hepatitis B was recorded in the 50 to 59 year age group – 22. The highest number of HBsAg positive carriers was recorded in the 30 to 39 year age group – 31. The highest number of acute hepatitis C cases was recorded in the 20 to 29 year age group – 24, and the highest number of patients with chronic hepatitis C – 42 was also in the same age group (20-29 years of age). The highest number of anti HCV positive carriers was recorded in the 20 to 29 year age group – 56. Conclusion: Almost all the results are in accordance with the epidemiology of viral hepatitis A, B and C.
