Abstract

Violence against children is a historical phenomenon that is as old as human
civilization, leaving multiple, long-lasting and extremely serious consequences for the
future development of the child and frequently resulting in the victim’s death. Child
abuse includes all forms of physical or psychological (emotional) abuse, sexual
abuse, neglect or negligent behaviour, as well as any other exploitation, leading to
actual or potential harm to the child's health and leaving a severe impact on the
psychological, physical and social development of the child. There is also a common
phenomenon of trans-generational transmission of abuse, where the abused child later
becomes the abuser. Therefore, the possibility of early detection of child abuse by
teachers and other educational personnel (preschool and school teachers and
psychologist) is undoubtedly vital.
