Abstract

This paper presents the results of research into the beginnings of navigation and shipbuilding in the Adriatic Sea area, dating, according to the recent archaeological results, from the period between 8th and 7th millennium B.C. The author analyzed possible ship forms at the beginning of trans-Adriatic navigation during that historical period, as well as the main characteristics of the Gajeta Korčulanka, which proved to be the most successful form among all small wooden fi shing
boats not only in the Adriatic, but also in the Mediterranean Sea.
