Abstract

The review compiles the recent results in the fi eld of application of polymers
mainly on the basis of methyl-methacrylate in prosthetic dentistry.
The paper covers the main achievements of polymer preparations and
modifi cations with improved perfomances, physico-chemical and mechanical
properties important for the dental application. Furthermore, the
infl uence of polymerization processes on polymer properties, content and
diffusion of residual monomer and other low molecular components in
the oral cavity is described. Specifi c attention is given to the new methods
for the structural analysis of acrylate polymers in order to understand the
structure/properties relationship with a perspective of the prolonged use
of dental supstitutes in the oral cavity.
