Abstract
The collection of Graphics and drawings of the 20th
century in the Gallery of visual arts, Osijek comprises more
than 2500 works of art, out of which the majority are the
works of Croatian artists. Besides, there is a small group of
works that is entitled ‘’Foreign and/or unknown artists’’.
When a year ago I first took over the collection in a process
of material rearranging, I noticed several works that
interested me. Theseare seven lithographs of biblical motifs
depicting an Old Testament story about earth-bound life of
the first man with specific artistic expression and markedly
sentimental. The works were signed by Abel Pann and
according to inventory book they were confiscated and brought
to the Gallery in 1941. There was no more information
to find so I decided to research more as a part of a long-term
processing project and categorization of the Graphic works
and drawings collection. Since it is about a completely
unknown artist in our country , the sources were scarce so
I was forced to lean on the Internet. Still each flaw has its
advantage – during this short investigation, the contact was
made with the Israeli Museum in Jerusalem and a museum
counsellor Yigal Zalmona, the only author who has been
dealing with this artist systematically.
