Abstract

In this study, the sensitivity of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus
faecalis and Candida albicans to different concentrations of calcium hydroxide water solutions was examined. The microorganisms were dispersed in Todd Hevitt Broth infusion at temperature of 37 °C in aerobic condition for 24 h. After incubation, the content was diluted up to 107/ml of micro-organisms per tube. In 12 test tubes, 6 ml of bouillon and 2 ml of micro-organism suspension were mixed with 2 ml of Ca(OH)2 water solution. The tubes were incubated aerobically at 37 °C for 48 h and the results were evaluated after 24 and 48 h.The examined solution of calcium hydroxide revealed the highest antimicrobial effect after 24 h, however, the results remained unchanged even after 48 h. The growth inhibition of S. mutans in infusion was recorded at a concentration of 136.97 x 10 s mol/dm3 and pH 12.73. The growth of S. faecalis and C. albicans was inhibited at a concentration of 271.18 x 10'3 mol/dm3 and pH 12.76.
