Abstract

The Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences keeps 52 letters by Metel Ožegović to Franjo Marković but only 9 that Marković sent to Ožego¬vić. A careful study makes it clear that Marković sent much more letters but they unfortunately got either lost or misplaced.
Ožegović wrote from 20th November 1870 till 2nd September 1889, while Marković’s letters are dated from 21st July 1880 to 2nd January 1888. The two discussed three topics: private matters, political problems, literary-publishing themes.
This article is to describe private and official relationship between Metel Ožegović and Franjo Marković using comparative method. The analysis of this correspondence contributes to better comprehension of social and political life in Croatia in the second half of the 19th century.
