Abstract

The autor defines the term and the way of forming bank regulatory capital and points out its fundamental functions: setting up a bank, creditor’s protection in case of bank liquidation, coverage of unexpected losses and regulatory function. The article also deals with capital valuation and structure, as well as capital adequacy ratio of Croatian banks within several years. In addition, the article is focused on analysing New Basle Capital Accord on capital earning capacity, working out capital adequacy ratio including credit, market, operating and other risiks, competency and obligations of the Croatian National Bank as supervisor of banks, market discipline as well as adaptability of Croatian banks to new regulations.
