Abstract
Future jobs will require competent people, and life in the XXI century responsible and capable citizens of the world. In order to ensure their children an equal chance in the labor market and enable them to actively participate in social life of the community, responsibility for schooling and education of their children parents more often take on themselves. This is reflected in the decisions concerning the schools that will educate the child, but also in the roles they assume in order to maximize participation in the education of their children.
The needs of the labor market are rapidly changing, and even more parents have more free time during the working day, flexible working hours or their duties and tasks are performed at home. Thus, education at home – homeschooling- is alternative form of education that emerged from the various needs and in some countries has been successfully implemented for a number of years, while in our country such a possibility does not exist yet. That does not mean that we should not be talking about this phenomenon now and prepare for it. On the contrary.
As the parent may have the role of teacher tomorrow, the aim of this paper is to make an insight into teaching competences necessary in order for parent to successfully implement the education process at home. Teaching competences are provided in the form of ISSA pedagogical standards that will be a prism for observing and describing the aforementioned phenomena, and the basis for reflection on how parents, adult learners, will be prepared for new roles.
