Abstract
Primary objective of education is no longer a transfer of knowledge, it is the development of competences. Therefore in art education it is also important that access to successful introduction to all art activities, especially music, is provided to everyone. Regarding music, it more often talked about, than listen to or performed. Learners can be successfully introduced to various activities only if teachers themselves have acquired certain artistic competences. Many research projects have shown that music is efficient resource for easy and effective learning. Teachers who are very skilled in using “arts”, especially music and visual arts, and dramatic arts have had an opportunity to make their talents available to the whole system. Art education has higher goals: strengthening of aesthetic and creative abilities and development of multiple intelligences, and Croatia can be competitive on the global market also by developing art education and knowledge which is based on the investment in people. Not all competences are equally important for the functioning and development of individuals and societies, artistic competences have been intolerably neglected in our education system, so it is necessary to develop and encourage them additionally through the education system, in order to enable a continuation of unique insights through arts, which would be difficult to achieve using other educational resources.
