Determination of refraction of some polymerisates against a white medium

Abstract

The study was carried out with Galodent, Ivocron and Isopast, polymeric materials routinely used in dental practice. Five plates of various thickness were made from each of the materials. When definitely formed, the plates were placed over white Al203 medium with a refraction of nearly 100%, The polymeric material refraction on the white medium was measured by means of a spectrophotometer. The results have shown Galodent and Isopast to be very similar by their optical features. It was shown that the thickness of Galodent and Isopast applied over the medium had to exceed 1.0 mm in order to prevent the color of medium to affect their refraction. The results of measurements with Ivocron, however, could not be adapted to the KM theory.
