Abstract

Eruption of permanent teeth is a physiological process, particularly
interesting for the orthodontics and the children dentistry, because it
indicates the best moment for an orthodontic or pedodontic treatment.
It is also important for a better knowledge of the dinamics of growth
and development, and the nascent stage of anomalies, frequently beginning at that period. The study was carried out an a sample of 2356 children from the Split region, 1199 boys and 1157 girls, with the method of cross section. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the average age and order of eruption of permanent teeth, differences specific for the sex, symmetry or asymmetry of the rythm of the change of teeth and the space of time when the eruption of certain teeth is more frequent. We have the following conclusions:
— the eruption of the permanent teeth occurs in two phases, between
which there is an interval of 1,72 years in boys, and 1,70 years in girls; - change of teeth begins in both sexes with the eruption of Mi;
— eruption of certain teeth occurs in girls earlier than in boys; — change of teeth occurs symmetrically, i.e. simultaneously on both sides of the jaw; - order of eruption of permanent teeth in the upper jaw is equal in both sexes, with a difference of the time of eruption, in boys it is M 1 - 5,90, I1 - 6,65, I2 - 7,75, P1 - 9,47, P2 - 10,20, C - 10,71, M 2 - 12,34, in girls M 1 - 5,84, I1 - 6,53, I2 - 7,55, P1 - 9,29, P2 - 10,07, C - 10,49, M 2 - 11,97; - in the mandible both time and sequence of eruption differ according to sex, in boys it is Mi — 5,85, li - 5,91, b — 6,74, Pi — 9,67, C - 9,75, P2 - 10,35, M 2 - 11,75, and in girls Mi - 5,75, li 5,78, b - 6,62, C - 10,29, Pi - 9,32, P2 - 10,28, M 2 - 11,57;— time interval with most frequent eruptions of individual permanent teeth were found by adding one standard deviation of the aritmetic mean, and they are from: M 1, Mi li - from 5,5 to 6,5 -, I1, l2 - from 6 to 7,5 -, I2 - from 7,0 to 8,5 —, Ci - from 8,5 to 10,0 -, Pi — from 8,0 to 10,5—, P1 - from 8,5 to 10,5 —, P2, Pi — from 9,0 to 11,5 —, Cs — from 9,5 to 12,0 -, M 2 - from 10,0 to 13,0 -, M 2 - from 10,5 to 13,0 years of age.
