Abstract

In toothless patients, the relationship between the soft and osseous
tissues undergo considerable changes causing visible alterations in the
patients’ physiognomy, facial proportions and esthetic appearance. This
would in particular hold true for the lower third of the face, where soft
tissues lose their hard support, assuming thus a new shape. These alterations may be as strongly expressed to be quite easily detected by mere direct measurement. Stereophotogrametry, allowing the changes to be recorded and measured in three spatial dimensions using stereophotography, is one of the methods for analysis of the facial morphological changes. The method of stereophotography and stereophotogram analysis, carried out in patient prior to and after prosthetic therapy using full dentures, is described.
