The Joy of Living in Christ, the Core of the Salesian Proposal of Youthful Holiness
Juan José Bartolomé
; Roma
Abstract
The article discusses Don Bosco's educational method, which particularly emphasizes the joy of living in Christ as the core of the Salesian proposal of youthful holiness. In keeping with the proposal (Strenna) by the Rector Major for 2013, the author cites the exhortation to joy expressed by the Apostle Paul in the Letter to the Philippians. From prison, Paul urges the first Christians in Philippi to rejoice in the Lord. Don Bosco is an educator for whom joy is a constitutive feature of the educational system. For this purpose, Don Bosco encourages a family atmosphere in his educational constitution, linking joy and faith and showing the young how it is possible to be happy now and in eternity. Christ's apostle, the joyful evangelist, should exhort others to joy so that everyone can live in the Lord and in true joy.
