"Rejoice in the Lord always! Again, I say, rejoice!” (Phil 4:4)
Cesare Bisoli
; Rim
Abstract
The article deals with the interconnectedness of the gospel of joy and the pedagogy of goodness in the light of Don Bosco's educational system. The author offers his reflections in the form of a lectio divina, particularly emphasizing the biblical source which is also the theological basis and measure for finding genuine joy. The people of God in the Bible experienced three levels of joy asociated with the creation, the relationship of the people of God with God in history and future salvation. In addition to exegetical interpretation, the author notes the connection with life and the actualization of the biblical text, as well as mutual exchanges within a group that can contribute to the growth of fellowship and promote decision making. Joy is an existential human need. The secret of Christian joy is living in faith in Jesus Christ. Such Christians are pleased to be Christians, while at the same time continuing to be Christians and, therefore, they are satisfied. For Don Bosco, joy is an essential educational factor and an ascetic spiritual component of his personal life and educational system. This is also confirmed by his spiritual sons and daughters in their lives and constitutions.
