Abstract
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the publication of the document "The renewal of catechesis" the author talks about its origin and meaning for the contemporary renewal of catechesis in Italy, but also indirectly for the universal Church. According to the document, modern catechesis is Christocentric. The responsible subject of catechesis is the community, the goal of catechesis is the completion of faith and life. The Bible is the basic "book" of catechesis. The twofold faithfulness to God and man is vital. Catechesis includes all ages, all situations and conditions in which people live. The catechist is called to be a witness, a teacher and educator. Catechesis in the first place belongs to the catechists and the Church community. The document had a positive impact not only on catechesis but also on youth ministry. Today's youth need help to get to know the Christian faith. Hence, it is necessary to evangelize while educating and to educate while evangelising.
