Abstract

The author considers the possibilities and tasks of pastoral ministry to university students in today's Europe, drawing from the speech by Benedict XVI and the homily by Cardinal Bertone delivered during the First European Meeting of University Students in July 2009 at the Vatican. St. Benedict and Christ's love are true guideposts that will help students who want to be "new disciples of Emmaus." Man, created in the image of God, is invited to sacrifice himself unto death on the cross, according to the model of the crucified Jesus Christ. It is worthwhile to propose a correct scale of values to today's students, the starting point of which should be God's love. The organic project for pastoral ministry to university students in Europe includes the search for and encounter with Jesus Christ, together with a new life. Thus, the formative path in pastoral ministry to students should lead to an encounter with the Resurrected Lord. The personal encounter with Jesus should be nourished and fostered in words and sacraments, the culmination of which is participation in the celebration of the Eucharist.
