Abstract

Based on the selected literature and sources, the author analyses the lawsuit which was launched by the Zagreb State Attorney’s Offi ce against 53 Croatian Serbs accused of high treason in the beginning of the year 1909. In the author’s opinion, during that time in Croatia ruled by the “Ban”, there existed a high-treason activity indicated by the State Attorney’s Office, but the lawsuit itself was launched solely to justify the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which also determined its fate. Through the analysis of this lawsuit, the author has also defined the Croatian position within the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, where Croats could not address their most vital needs in their own interest, but the interest of the community dominated by Germans and Hungarians.
