Abstract

An easily recognizable generation of young Croatian theater critics has been formed, one well versed in the history and reach of theater semiotics, which views semiotics as an epistemology of every theatric discipline, and strives to conscientiously and systematically analyze the act of theater, in the broadest sense of the word, with the intention of describing its workings as a meaningful, communicational phenomena, using typical semiological means. With the help of their expertise in theater critique, practice, and history, which they acquired at Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences and Academies of Dramatic Arts across Croatia, which are home to many excellent Croatian theatrologists, they systematically and responsibly consider every theatric discipline involved in performing a play. It’s becoming quite common for the youngest generation of theater critics to funnel their work into specialized electronic magazines such as Teatar.hr, Kazalište.hr, tportal.hr, or to restrict them to pages of professional theater magazines such as Kazalište.
