Abstract

This paper analyses the relationship between contemporary Croatian drama and the latest Croatian history. The first part of the text deals with the emersion of »social escapism« as the major attribute of Croatian drama in the first half of the nineties, while the second part of the text analyses the revival of neorealism and a critical reflexion of a new Croatian society in the second half of the nineties. In opposition to the drama literature of this period, which is characterized by a transition problems of a post war and post communism Croatian society, the third part of the text deals with the appearance of new subjects, which are indicating the beginning of new reality, focussing on migration, globalization, multiculturality and being part of western capitalistic society.
