Abstract

The written sources of the 14th century Trogir have been only partly preserved. However, it is possible to understand the life of its population, their occupations, and whence the settlers came from. These sources, although written in Latin, reveal that in that town lived the Croatian people. This is corroborated by their names and the first known surnames. Along with their folk names they also pronounced the names of saints in correct Croatian transcribed in Latin. These documents show the structure of the municipal administration and of all those occupations needed for regular life.
