Texture Investigation of Electrical Steels

M. Godec
M. Jenko

Abstract

A complete description of a polycrystalline materials microstructure includes the grains’ sizes, shapes and arrangements as well as the distribution of the grains’ orientations. The orientation parameters of the crystallites are covered by the term texture. The majority of texture studies are made with the X-ray diffraction method. The principal a texture investigation in polycrystalline materials are reviewed. Finally, some examples are given concerning texture improvement of electrical steels alloyed with small Sn additions. The textures of the electrical steels are shown as pole figures, ODF functions and fibre textures. For those not familiar with texture measurements a simple explanation of how to interpret the texture results are also given.
