Abstract
There are obviously close links between the first, second, and third generations of migrant workers' living conditions. An overview of the general conditions and life styles of first-generation migrants facilitates an insight into the specific cultural needs of second-generation migrants, indicating the necessity of creating a new culture based on an even-handed socio-economic system. In the period of intercultural activities, the class dimension should be stressed. The very cultural identity of migrants (and not only theirs) should develop within the framework of an open system of values and on the basis of a critical selection and acceptance of the best that the cultural communities have to offer different yet on equal footing.
