Abstract

The paper outlines the risk factors in welding, a very common profession and one of the most strenuous and hazardous jobs. It reviews the basic measures for the protection of welders at work and provides a list of currently used protective equipment. Basic features of the protective equipment and resources are outlined, including their capacity to reduce sources of hazards. Also described are the primarily humanitarian reasons for the provision and availability of safe and functional protective equipment which will reduce the risk of injury and occupational diseases. As part of safety at work, the paper describes the need for regular inspections of all equipment, tools and substances used in the welding process.
