Abstract

The history of literature is a significant factor of cultural identification for every nation. Its most important task is to steadfastly evaluate and recapitulate the literary realities and totalities of literature. This is accomplished by application of certain doctrines of literary history with an aim of shedding more light upon the polyvalence and controversy of the works of literature. During the past thirty years there has been a growing need in Western Europe and the United States, to have the history of literature itself subjected to strict analytical judgement. The result of these endeavours is also the so-called anti-history of literature which, like the anti-novel, the anti-drama and other similar trends, evaluates and revaluates literature in an antitraditional and non-conformistic manner. The anti-history of literature is still looked upon merely as some kind of a new form of observing the function of literature in our controversial times. The future Will no doubt show more clearly what it is all about.
