Mysterious Degrees of Whiteness: Stereotypes about Croats in Colonial New Zealand

Abstract
This article explores the complexity of the processes of stigmatisation which occured in relation to the concept of “whiteness” in colonial New Zealand at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. It analyses the ways Croatian immigrants in New Zealand were stigmatised and stereotyped as “non-white” group.
