Abstract
In this paper the author interprets a series of oral lyrical poems published in different anthologies. These poems are collected on the territory of the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The sea is a common motive which connects all selected poems. The author tires to determine the place which the sea occupied in people’s minds, as the creators of the oral literary heritage. The poems interpreted in the paper belong to different subgenres of oral lyrical poems, so they are classified according to certain subtypes they belong to. The variety of subtypes confirms that the sea is important in all spheres of life and in the areas which are not geographically directly related to the sea, but they have maintained lively correspondence with the marine and coastal area. Oral lyrical poems are explained multidisciplinary and special attention is given to aesthetic and existential function of these poems whose lait motive is the sea.
