Abstract
In this paper, applicability of NiCrBSi coatings in quartz sand particle erosion environment at impact angle of 90o, has been investigated. Erosion resistance of three types of flame sprayed and fused NiCrBSi coatings (NiCrBSi coating, NiCrBSi+WC composite coating and NiCrWBSi coating) and erosion resistance of three types of steel substrates (steels C45, 42CrMo4 and X6CrNiMo18-10-2), have been compared. The investigation showed that tougher and ductile steel specimens (especially the toughest substrate material X6CrNiMo18-10-2), have better (or same) erosion resistance than those covered with hard and brittle NiCrBSi coatings. The main wear mechanism was the surface fatigue crack mechanism. These hard coatings can be used as the protection of steel materials from erosive wear, but at smaller impact angles of abrasive particles.
