Abstract
This study fonns a part of an investigation of influence of pulsating magnetic
fields of low intensity and frequency on biosystems.
In this trial 50 patients with posttraurnatic Sudeck's atrophy (average 50 years, range
23 - 71, 27 female) were included. lt was a prospective and randomized trial. Patients were randomly divided into two groups. ln the first group there were 23 patients
(average 51 years, range 23 - 71, 13 female) .treated with pulsating magnetic field (50
·Hz, 5 - l O mT), kinesyotherapy and hydrotherapy. Magnetic field was applied for 30
min .. daily ·and continued for consecutive 50 days. In the second group there were 27
patienls (average 49 years, range 24 ~ 68, 14 female) who were treated with
. kinesyotherapy and hydro therapy_ only.
Changes in bone density and structure, muscle strenght, oedema reduction, skin colour
and movement range were assesed before and after treatment. ·
Pain reduction has been evaluated by means of special score system.
Results were analysed with Wilcoxon test. Data. analysis has shown that their is
statistically significant difference (p-0,05) in bone density. range of movement, muscle
strenght and pain reduction between groups (significantly better results in magnetic
field therapy group). · ·
lt is stated the application of pulsating magnetic fields of low intensit-y and frequency
is a useful method o( dealing with complications connected with posttraumtic Sudeck's
atrophY.
