Abstract

Croato-Glagolitic printed Breviary of 1491
In the first part of the Temporal (till the begining of Lent) Croato-Glagolitic printed Breviary of 1491 is in agreement with the oldest Glagolitic tradition, preserved for exemple in the First Vrbnik Breviary. In the second part (the rest of the year) it follows a younger tradition, but this tradition is differnet from the one of Zadar-Krbava Breviaries. In the Sanctoral it agrees with those breviaries which have neither the cult of Ss. Cyril and Methodius nor strongly emphasize Franciscan feasts. The language of the Breviary of 1491 is characterized by the use of the pronoun če istead čьto. It is therefore probable that this editio princeps is also the work of Istrian Glagolites (glagoljaši) although, by its technical features it does not reach the level of the printed Missal of 1483.
