The Evaluations of Road Traffic in the City of Slatina with Development Proposal

Abstract

The City of Slatina is situated in Virovitičko-Podravska County, in the north, near the border with the Republic of Hungary. A corridor of the state road D-2 and the regional railroad Varaždin-Osijek pass through the city. The paper analyzes the road traffic system of the City of Slatina, with particular attention to the analysis of traffic accidents through a georeferenced database during four years, from 2010 until 2013. The monetization of traffic accident expenses for the City of Slatina was made on the basis of known expenses of traffic accidents with casualties and injured persons, as well as material damage. The results of the applied methodology shows enormous expenses owing to traffic accidents. It is precisely the repairs of dangerous spots in the City of Slatina that represent a good opportunity for extremely economical investments. Furthermore, a list of priorities was made for the repair of dangerous spots, along with the suggestions on measures to be carried out for the purpose of raising the safety level in the city. Besides that, the paper presents guidelines for further development of the road infrastructure in the City of Slatina.
