Abstract

Using the methodology developed by Webster, Hysom & Fullmer (1996) we test two claims: (a) that sexual orientation is a diffuse status characteristic,
and (b) that status generalization of sexual orientation is not a culture-specific phenomenon. Data from 148 questionnaires completed by male and female students at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb are compared to the US data. The results confirm both of our starting assumptions. In conclusion, the authors point out the need for the development of a sociology of sexuality research agenda in Croatian social sciences.
