Abstract

Opera is a complex musical-theatrical form that combines music, dance and visual arts and literature. This paper analyzes the dual (internal and external) role of the children’s chorus in the musical aesthetic education of a child. The authors analyzed the role of the children's chorus in the operas of Romanticism (Georges Bizet's Carmen, Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca and La Bohème, Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello) in two aspects. The first of them was the analysis of musical expressive components of children's chorus part (type of chorus, range of tones, meter, dynamics, tempo and character), while the second aspect of the analysis examined the possibility of realizing material, functional and educational tasks of music education through the introduction and/or participation in children's opera choruses. The authors suggest further research of this issue in works of opera of other musical style periods.
