Abstract

In this paper the author gives an answer to the question: »What are new technologies?« and at the same time draws our attention to the fact that the general notion of new technology is not to be understood as exclusively technical innovation but rather as an organizational innovation which has been founded on the so called »intellectual technology«. Thus, according to the author’s opinion, new technologies must be regarded as new production methods which are a combination of organizational procedures and technological decisions.
New types of production immanent in their own structure stipulate decentralization, which in turn brings changes in the distribution of technological power and this, in the long run, leads to establishing of self-management in production. However, the total dispersion of technological powers will not be possible in the near future. Furthermore, if the forces inside an organization of work were based only on structural-functional parameters, there would be a real danger of spreading such distribution of power (as a social habit) over the delegation system and outside the organization of work itself.
