Abstract
Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine meaning > 3 erythrocytes per high power field of urine sediment microscopy. It may be microscopic or macroscopic, asymptomatic or symptomatic, with or without other urinary disorders. Hematuria, microscopic or macroscopic must be investigated and etiologically resolved. However, up to 50% of macroscopic, and 70% of microscopic haematuria remain etiologically unsolved. Leading causes of hematuria are urinary tract infections, confirmed or excluded on the basis of microscopic findings. Therapy will be more effective if the cause is discovered in time and treated accordingly. In this paper a case of hematuria in family medicine is described.
