Abstract

In order to find the simplest possible expressive indicator of digestive process function and energetic status of dairy cows in the period of their early lactation the urea concentrations in the blood serum were measured. The measured values varied from 1 .79 to 10.09 m mol/l, while the average value was 3.89m mol/l. The open days of the analysed cows were prolonged. The analysis of the variance did not show significant statistical influence of urea concentration on the reproductive characteristics of the dairy cows (open days, number of inseminations per conception). When the open days were divided into categories it was evident that the dairy cows with the higher urea concentration in blood showed longer open days. The following, statistically obtained results differ from the majority of previously conducted analyses, due to a small number of analysed cows, a longer period of experiment, unequal lactation, as well as insufficiently controlled feeding conditions, housing and exploitation of cows.
