Abstract

We investigated the occurrence of poor germination, growth and the appearance of spinach in the winter breeding of protected areas of 2010 in the area of Herzegovina. Tyrophagus similis Volgin (spinach bud mite) is found on spinach samples taken from the greenhouse. The study of prevalence of these mites in Herzegovina covered the area of Dubrave and Višići. Similar damages to spinach leaves were noticed for the last few years, but the cause of these damages was not determined up to now. The aim of this study was to determine the causes of this phenomenon in order to develop effective strategies to control T. similis.
