Abstract

Puccinia tritici is one of the most studied and represented pests worldwide. The damages that this pest causes can be extremely large. Species from Puccinia genus have a very large reproductive potential, uredospore are very resistant to ultraviolet radiation and they are very easily transmitted by air in large distances (intercontinentally). In this manner, by migrations, inoculum of different virulence is exchanged all the time. Chemical treatment of wheat is very often economically and ecologically unjustified because of the period when leaf rust appears. Therefore, one of the best ways of fighting Puccinia tritici is finding resistant wheat genotypes.
