Abstract

Physical and chemical properties of domestic wools have been investigated in the cours of the research proiect "Domestic Woools", organised at the Faculty of Textile Technology, and possibilities of their application in textile industry are proposed. Results of field and laboratory investigations are: - variety of breeds and sub-breeds is escists and it accounts for the differences in wool quality, - autochtonous sub-breeds, (specially lstrian "pramenka") are endangered, so it is hard to find animals that have not been cross-bred, - domestic wools, today, can be described as unfit for industrial usage, suitable only for home processing. By proper breeding and clip preparation certain quantities of useful domestic wool for industryal can be obtained. But only reduction in the number of breeds raised in Croatia would result in considerable quantity of wool that could be used by Croatian textile industry. Some of these wools can even equal specitied values of New Zeland wools.
