Abstract

Alternative fecundity in apple plantation isn’t a rare occurrence, and those who have experienced it know that it can seriously jeopardize the profitability of production. It is necessary to carry out reducing the number of fruits to achieve regular fecundity in apple plantations. Reducing the number of apple fruits is a pomotechnical treatment which has a goal to reduce the crop of the current year in order to increase the size and quality of the remaining fruits on trees, as well as better differentiation of generative buds for the next year, that is, achieving regular fertility.
In modern intensive production of apples, reducing the number of fruits is performed by chemical preparations which have some of the growth regulators as active substance. Applying and effectiveness of such preparations is affected by a large number of factors, therefore it is important to be familiar with all of them in order to make reducing the number of fruits as effective as possible. The fact that there isn’t registered not even one preparation for this use in Croatia represents a big problem.
