Abstract
The aim of this paper was to estimate the correlation of the first fertilization age and the first calving with total fertility and duration of Lipizzaner mare exploitation on Đakovo stud farm. The investigations were carried out on 54 Lipizzaner mares excluded from the breeding, on Đakovo stud farm. The data on the mares were obtained from the master data file of Đakovo stud farm. The data processing included: the age of the first fertilization and the first calving, duration of the first pregnancy, duration of breeding mare exploitation, as well as the total number of foals per breeding mare. The correlation between the given characteristics was also estimated. The given results of our investigations indicate that the age of the first fertilization and the first calving does not influence the fertility and duration of exploitation of Lipizzaner mares on Đakovo stud farm. However, the duration of exploitation is of great importance in total fertility of mares. Statistical elaboration has shown that the age of the first fertilization, the age of the first calving, and duration of exploitation for the investigated mares were 1 ,539 days or 4.22 years, 1 ,867 days or 5.12 years, and 5,737 days or 15.72 years, respectively. Total number of foals per breeding mare was 9,78, whereas the duration of the first pregnancy was 327 days. The influence of the first fertilization age upon duration of mare exploitation was rather low, the coefficient of correlation amounting to r=0.045, whereas the influence of the first fertilization age upon total number of foals per breeding mare was also low and negative with the coefficient of correlation r=-0.80. The influence of the first calving age upon duration of mare exploitation was positive and significant, the coefficient of correlation being r=0,268, whereas the influence of the first calving age upon total number of foals per mare was negative with the correlation coefficient r=-0,188. The influence of exploitation duration upon total fertility of mares was highly significant, the coefficient of correlation being r=0,841.
