Abstract

The authors describe two cases of poisoning with the tea prepared from oleander leaves. In one case the patient tried to provoke abortion while the other was a case of suicidal poisoning. Today the poisoning with pharmaceutical products .is much more frequent while plants are rarely used. The leading symptoms of intoxication were cardiac disturbances such as bradycardia, atrioventricular block and hypotension lasting five to six days in spite of the therapy with atropine and potassium. This suggests that the effect of glycosides is cumulative, although contrary opinions are found in the literature.
