Abstract

Sunlight is necessary for sprouting and development of white mistletoe. In forest stands where bigger actions were taken sunlight makes possible more intensive development of the white mistletoe. In select forests white milestone has infected 30% of the silver fir trees and in certain stands even 100%. There have been found approximately from 41 to 147, 3 bushes of white mistletoe per tree. Harmful effects on forest are depending on the number of the infested trees, number of the bushes and biomass. Due to attacks of the white mistletoe the growth has been reduced by over 60%. The trees with diameter larger then 60 cm do not increase in volume and their fructification capacity is reduced. Affected trees have reduced technical value, they get physiologically weaken and predisposed to attacks of pathogenic fungi a bark-beetles. Eventually all this leads to tree felling and to a disorder of the forest balance.
