Abstract
Confined spaces are enclosed or partially closed spaces, above or below ground. They are not designed for continuous worker occupancy. Workers performing tasks in such spaces are exposed to risks from a variety of hazards (falls, slipping, toxic atmosphere, oxygen-deficient or oxygen-enriched atmosphere). Only trained workers with permission from the responsible person may enter the confined space.
The aim of this paper is to describe the most common health and safety risks and hazards and to suggest the relevant preventive measures.
