Abstract
A method for differentiating between the entrance and exit of shot holes is suggested on the basis of spectrographic determination of copper. It is shown that the amount of copper at the shot hole entrance can serve as an indication of the distance from which the shot was fired. The highest amount of copper around the hole is found when the shot is fired from a distance of 10 cm. The amount decreases as the firing distance increases, so that at a distance of 40 cm hardly any copper is found. This, however, depends upon the material at which the shot is fired.
