Abstract

In recent years, diagnostic ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system (MSUS) has become almost inevitable
in everyday clinical practice in rheumatology. Due to the eff orts of the European League Against Rheumatism
(EULAR), the use of MSUS has signifi cantly increased in Europe. Unfortunately, there are still certain open issues related
to MSUS, primarily regarding diff erent ways of interpretation of US fi ndings, the standardization of MSUS fi ndings,
and the lack of clear criteria for assessing the competency of sonographers and their certifi cation.
In this article, we present an overview of the current status of MSUS in rheumatology in Croatia, of diff erent issues
arising in everyday practice, as well as future perspectives.
