Abstract
The paper aims to analyze repeated operations following osteosynthesis as well as lethality of the Traumatological Department of the Surgery at Požega Hospital in the period from October 30th 1981 to January 1st, 1996. Out of the total of 1881 performed osteosyntheses, 130 patients (6.9%) underwent are current operation due to : refracture (31 cases; 1.6%), pseudo arthrosis (11 cases; 0.6%), conversion (11 cases; 0 .6%), technical errors (43 cases; 2.3%), osteitis (32 cases; 1.7%) or the need for limb amputation (2 cases; 0.1%). Out of the total of 5835 patients treated at traumato logy, 81 (1.39%) died. General operative lethality was 0.53%, where as in the patients treated with osteosynthesis it was 1.74%. The author is satisfied with the results of analysis of these two parameters indicating the activity of the department, but he believes that the number of technical errors should be reduced. He suggests more frequent use of external fixator in the treatment and low-molecule heparin in the prevention of thromboembolism. Improvement in the surgeons’ work can reduce the occurrence of postoperative osteitis.
