Abstract

Total war mortality rate in one of the brigades of the Croatian Army amounts to 2.16%, whereas in other contemporary wars the recorded mortality is 1.8-4.1% (i.e. 3.7% in the Falkland Islands War). Most common causes of death were shot wounds (58.46%) especially of the head, explosive wounds (20%) and accidents (15.38%). Deaths occurred instantaneously in 90.76% of cases, i.e. on the front line. Not a single case of death during medical treatment or evacuation has been noted.
